Even a complaint can take hours, depending on complexity of the issues. Attorneys must review records, identify key facts, choose the right claims, and present a clear story, all while following strict procedural rules.
Legal judgment cannot be delegated to a machine. Lawyers must decide what matters, assess risk, and shape strategy. But much of complaint drafting is repetitive, structured, and time-consuming work that does not require the same level of legal analysis.
That led us to ask whether technology could handle the tedious work without compromising quality. We built a custom AI agent to assist with drafting selected state-specific summonses and complaints in the United States.
The results exceeded expectations. The agent accelerated drafting, streamlined the process, and improved consistency. Attorneys remained fully in control, reviewing and revising every document before delivery to the client.
The Challenge: Balancing Efficiency and Quality
Drafting a complaint requires more than filling in templated blanks. Each case presents different facts, legal issues, and procedural requirements. Attorneys must organize the allegations clearly, satisfy court rules, and preserve their writing style. Any automation had to improve efficiency without sacrificing legal accuracy, factual precision, or attorney control.
Quality control remained essential. Attorneys and QC staff reviewed every draft under our standard protocols. More complex cases required additional review, which could slow the process.
The solution therefore had to reduce drafting time, preserve legal and factual accuracy, match the attorney’s style, adapt to different case types, minimize revisions, and fit within the existing QC process. The project’s success depended on balancing automation with professional judgment.
Developing a Customized AI Solution
Instead of using a generic drafting tool, we built a specialized AI agent for a specific client’s complaint-drafting needs. The approach was simple: divide the drafting process into focused functions, with each component handling a specific task.
A Multi-Agent Framework
The solution had two primary components:
1. General Complaint Drafting Agent

- Applied the required legal elements to each claim.

This division of work created an efficient workflow. The specialized agents produced focused claim sections, while the primary agent combined them into a complete, structured complaint.
Training and Optimization
Building an effective legal drafting agent requires more than uploading documents and asking it to draft. We configured the system with carefully designed prompts, drafting instructions, workflow guidance, research inputs, and pleading structures tailored to litigation.
Through repeated testing and refinement, the agent learned to:

- Separate relevant from irrelevant information.
- Identify potential claims and legal issues.
